The Friends of the H L Mencken House invite all to the Mencken House Summer Open House this Sunday, June 24, 2012 from 2:00PM to 5:00PM.

Special guest Rob Kasper, formerly of the Baltimore Sun, will be showcasing and signing his new book Baltimore Beer: A Satisfying History of Charm City Brewing (The History Press, 2012).

Enjoy refreshments, treats and music. Beer will be available at our cash bar.

Book Signing for Bodine’s City Saturday, April 21, 2011 1:00 to 4:00 pm

The Friends of the H. L. Mencken House are hosting a book signing for Jennifer B. Bodine’s Bodine’s City: The Photography of A. Aubrey Bodine.

Jennifer Bodine, the only child of renowned Baltimore Sunday Sun photographer A. Aubrey Bodine, presents this collection of 154 images which were were shot within a four mile radius of where her father lived or worked. Though the images are of Baltimore this is not a Baltimore picture book as A. Aubrey Bodine’s artistry transcends geographical bounds.

Jennifer will be at the H. L. Mencken House on Saturday, April 21st from 1:00 to 4:00 pm to chat with visitors and sign copies of this latest A. Aubrey Bodine photography collection. H. L. Mencken and Aubrey Bodine were colleagues at the Baltimore Sunpapers and their friendship was long-standing.

Visitors on Saturday will be able to tour the normally closed Mencken House and Garden and enjoy light refreshments.

Come and enjoy this marvelous afternoon event for both Mencken and Bodine fans.

JHU Odyssey Tour of the Mencken House Quickly Sold Out

Two tours of the Mencken House April 14, 2012, conducted by Marion Rodgers and offered by Odyssey, Johns Hopkins’ non-credit liberal arts program, were quickly sold out. A third was added and that, too, quickly sold out.

The Seventh Annual Mencken Graveside Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2012, at 2:00 PM at the Mencken Family gravesite, Loudon Park Cemetery, 3620 Wilkens Avenue, Baltimore, MD.

Participants are invited to meet at Spirits West, 2601 Wilkens Ave. after the ceremony

The Mencken House Will Be Open Sunday, December 11, 2011

The Mencken House will be open this Sunday, December 11, 2011, from noon until 5 PM as part of the Union Square Cookie Tour.

Admission to the Mencken House only is free. Tickets for the Cookie Tour may be purchased in advance (save $5) or at the Old Pratt Library No. 2, 1401 Hollins Street.

The Mencken House will be dressed in its “Christmas Best”, the Train Garden will be in place, and the Arion Gesangverein will be be performing at the house from 1:30 to 3:00 in the afternoon.

Enjoy German holiday treats such as springerle and pfeffernüsse.
