Mencken House to Briefly Re-Open Monday, October 29th
29 OCTOBER 2001, Baltimore—After four years of quiet, the home of the
Sage of Baltimore, H. L. Mencken, will briefly re-open Monday morning. A
glimpse into the dusty, shuttered museum at 1524 Hollins Street will not
reveal a preparation for a Halloween haunted house, but rather the
measurement of contractors working for the Friends of the H. L. Mencken
House. Facing fiscal difficulties, the City of Baltimore has surplused
the property, and is expected to sell it before the end of the year. Come
find out more about the Mencken, the house, and the Friends’ plan to
acquire and re-open the museum dedicated to the life and writing of America’s
great man of letters.
Please join us at 10:00am, Monday, October 29th at 1524 Hollins Street, on the north side of Union Square:
Take Lombard Street west from Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard eight blocks to Stricker Street;
Turn right at Stricker; and
Turn left at next intersection at Hollins Street.
